UX DESIGN, RESEARCH AND PERSONAS

Industry Partners of ISPT asked us to create an experience that attracted an audience and the community to attend by cultivating an inclusive environment.

Paired project with Cheryl Teng

My partner and I developed three concept proposals that responded to our first assignment brief; provide a micro community-first intervention in a macro complex system to digitally augment space to promote inclusion and positive change.

Phase 2

- Final Project Presentation

We aimed to create a demonstrable design solution that expanded upon the issues and insights raised in our initial milestone presentation. Our final design solution was Neural Cube, focusing on awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and its community.

We’ve designed Neural Cube based on the lived experience of an Autistic individual.

My brother, Anthony.

NeuralCube alters the conventional sensory perceptions to understand the ASD experience by exhibiting the potential solutions to cater for visual

and audible sensitivities

Neural Cube is a semi-structured experience divided into four sections, dedicated to educating users of auditory and visual sensitivities by introducing possible solutions.

One

Visitors gather in a shared foyer that provides a context of Neural Cubes' experience, providing information identifying ‘What is ASD?’, and ‘What is a common retail experience like for them?’.

Two

Visitors enter a room that overwhelms auditory senses through the increased audio stimulus of retail spaces. Wearing headphones simulate ‘auditory integration’ which reduces overwhelming audio stimulus, creating a calmer environment.

Three

Simulation of visual sensory overload through Intense, fluorescent lighting and colours disrupts the conventional retail environment. Visitors can walk onto white platforms to enter an ‘escape space’, transforming the room into a peaceful environment featuring calmer colours.

The final ‘reflective room’ projects screens that prompt users with

questions about their experiences while showcasing the personal experiences of ASD community members. Additionally, an opportunity to view resources available to log educational information.

Phase 3 -

Documentation & Critical Analysis

This final document contains research related to the Design Challenge and supports our Design Solution Neural Cube. We delivered a report document containing information on our research process and the design solution. The report style represents both the details of our research and the aesthetic of our design solution.
