CODING, TWINE, ILLUSTRATOR
A ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ game, where players respond to a prompt of being cancelled by choosing between two alternative characters and choices.
Cancelled
Culture
Cancel Culture publicly shames, vilifies and ostracises prominent members of the community as a form of social justice, which has regressed people to a mob mentality to boycott anyone on a pretence narrative.
I responded to the social dilemmas of cancel culture by providing a dialogue of different perspectives through two alternative personas. Both personas follow a different narrative based on tropes present within cancel culture, closely referencing the cancelling of public figures.
The mechanic of binary decision making is delivered through interactive stories that produce multiple outcomes. I used the program ‘Twine’ to develop my interactive ‘choose your own adventure’ game, as Twine specialises in scripting interactive, non-linear stories. Through CSS and HTML files, I could pair game design with interactive storytelling.
To prototype the game mechanic and setup, I used ‘Google Forms’ which included details of scenarios, binary-decisions and outcomes. I created two separate Forms for each persona, reviewing and refining details once I applied it to Twine. My designs were created through Adobe Illustrator, developed for each persona and follows each narrative prompt accordingly.
